ERIC AND THE ADAMS ROCK DALLAS AND OKC!

Here I am sitting in my bed with “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” in the background. On the way home from our gigs this weekend (one in Dallas at Sue Ellen’s Friday night and the other Saturday night in Oklahoma City) we found ourselves driving the hour and a half home from OKC back to Tulsa. Mind you, it was around 2am when we pulled out of the Belle Isle Brewery parking lot and we were all delirious from lack of sleep the night before. It was super foggy and the image from Pee-Wee’s hit movie of the “Large Marge” scene came to mind. I quoted it and then we all periodically quoted the movie ending with Jimmy in the back singing quietly and then getting louder, “la, la, la, la…La, La, La, La….LA LA LA LA!!”. We all cracked up and was a great finale to our weekend drive back to the motherstation of Tulsa.

FRIDAY NIGHT, 10pm

We got out of Tulsa as fast as possible. We were off to a late start and though it did seem like there were roadblocks everywhere to get out of town (literally), we made it onto the open road as nightfall hit. We were all excited to get out of town for a bit and snacking on the way there. We hit rain as we entered the Dallas area and finally made it to Sue Ellen’s close to the time we were supposed to play. We jumped out of the car fast, loaded into the venue, and soundchecked with just enough time to fix our hair, change into something more appropriate, and find the setlist.

It was a strong crowd and once we got started, the requests poured in. We rocked through our original requests (“Sugar You Ain’t So Sweet”) and some songs we never tried as a band that was fun (“Talking About A Revolution”, Tracy Chapman). We had some friends hang out with us and ended the night packing up the car with a quick WhataBurger meal (fancy, I know,ha). We settled in the Days Inn hotel booked early that day and got about a few hours of sleep. We were all too wired to just sleep so we gabbed for a bit more. I think I offered to take us all to see “Precious” while I was half asleep, or so Angel said,ha.

SATURDAY, 12PM
We woke up, showered, and headed off for lunch at Little Gus’s (I had the best bagel sandwich) in Plano. We got a bit lost on the way out of town (two of our phones have GPS, you’d think that wouldn’t happen) but all the re-routing messed us up a bit, I think. We hit some more rain on the way up to OKC but arrived early to the venue we were playing that night, Belle Isle Brewery. I really liked the place right when we walked in. The deal was sealed when I saw sweet potato fries (my FAVorite!) on the menu. We loaded in our stuff and then the bar was awesome and fed us. I sat at the bar with Angel and Jimmy and played one of those game machines you see at bars. There was this game Cas and I used to play in State College at Chumley’s called Funky Monkey. Anyone ever play that?

The sound guy, Fritz showed up, we soundchecked, and as we were doing that, everyone started filing in! A big thanks to The Oklahoman, OKGazette, and especially, EMILY H. for helping bring the people to the show! We had a great active crowd and was so excited to see some of the people who used to come out to the solo shows at Galileo’s (sad that place closed in Paseo. We played till 1am selling Cds AND shirts (yeah!), packed up our gear and headed home.

A fun trip all in all and can’t wait for our next gig over at Cain’s Ballroom’s 2nd Stage Friday, February 5th at 8pm with special guests, Dante and the Hawks and Motive For Movement here in Tulsa!
