My Thoughts about the Right and the Left.

July 15th, 2010 Angel 8 comments

I wanted to share with you all a brief journal entry from this past Spring.  My heart was heavy and I wrote some things down that I have carried with me for years.  I thought I would share with you all…in the hope that if any of you have experienced familiar things you would know that you’re not alone:

I have to trust that as every year recycles, spring brings new life to us.  This spring, however, has been a puzzling one.  Within its early presence, loss of life has come to pass.  The idea of losing those dear to me and those around me is contrary to what has characteristically been a time of new growth and regeneration.  For me, winter is my usual time for reflection and writing but unexpectedly, I have been consumed with introspection.  As my Mom would say, “a quiet hush” has come over me.

For the families that lost loved ones these past few weeks, their loss is insurmountable.  For the rest of us, we die a little each day.  We lose little pieces of ourselves.  Sometimes, we give those pieces up.  Sometimes, they are taken from us.  As for now, my attention has been focused on those who are living. I try to grasp the perspective and the mindset of the ones who take.

I don’t typically step into the arena of politics.  I am amused by most people who fervently “discuss” their belief systems.  It has been my determination that the “far right” and the “far left” could in fact be the very same people.  Sometimes, I think that they have gone so extreme that they have gone full circle and bumped into each other, standing side by side with their fists in the air.

In my experience, people who vehemently profess “open-mindedness” are usually the most close-minded.  My eyes were widely opened to the “left” during a trip to NYC.  I was in a room full of liberal, lesbian, feminists…surely THEY would be open-minded…or at least appreciate diversity enough to allow for multiple belief systems and opinions.  This however was not the case.  I was told to “step out of my little Oklahoma box and look around to see the real world”.  Now, I got quiet in this situation because I quickly resolved the fact that despite their preaching of open arms and individuality, I was not safe to share my thoughts or opinions.  I also resolved that this person who quickly shut me down, did not deserve to know the “whys” of what brought me to my place of thinking.  Nor did she deserve to know me.  More importantly, I don’t deserve to be mistreated based on who I am.  Unbeknownst to this girl, I had stepped out of my “little Oklahoma box”.  At the time, I had lived out of the country longer than I had lived in the country.  I had served communities of the diseased and downtrodden.  I fed the hungry, clothed the poor, treated the sick, built shelters for the homeless, comforted the orphaned, consoled the lonely and befriended the elderly.  I’ve seen humanity at its worst.  I saw with my own eyes what politics can do and for that matter, what it can’t do.

As far as the extreme right goes, my experience had been unsurprisingly the same.  Instant judgment without knowing me or where I’ve come from.  Love is what most of the extreme right, conservative preach.  Love.  I learned my lesson in love years ago.  I was seventeen. I had dated boys…but I had developed close relationships with girls and at 17 was involved in my first same sex relationship.  After being castigated and sent through my first gay to straight program, the lesson I learned was that something was wrong with me and I was incapable of love.  By the standards of the modern church, “Homosexuals can’t have loving relationships”.  I am gay = I can’t have a loving relationship. Because I am incapable of loving, I can’t be loved.  I have had preachers call me an animal, tell me that I’m going to hell, tell me that my life will lead to nothing if it hasn’t already.  To them, there is no such thing as a Christian who is also Gay.  I have spent MANY years studying and deliberating the Bible and my life and where I’m at in my relationship with God.  “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).  What has been my discovery?  History holds the key and sometimes the answer to so many of humanity’s questions.  I have studied and I have my answer.  Does this mean that I have stopped seeking?  No.  I continue to press on and draw from the Solomons of our day, scholars, my God and my Savior.  Quite honestly, my struggle has never been with God.  He seemed to be the only one to constantly surround me.  My struggle has always been with other people…the church.  After going through 3 different gay to straight programs, being humiliated in front of my peers and asked to quit my “calling” of helping others I have come to learn that there has been a chasm created to separate God’s children.  God didn’t create it.  His children did.  God never intended this for us.  Love is love is love is love.

I’m not saying that ALL liberals nor ALL Christians are this way but the people I described here are what I call the “takers”.  They have taken little pieces of me.  They take pieces of others.  They steal our humanity, our joy and our life experiences. I don’t have the capacity to understand why they do what they do.  I don’t understand how they have lost sight of compassion.

I am learning. I am learning to speak up for myself.  I am learning to speak out for myself.  I am learning to speak up for others.  I am learning to speak out for others.  I am learning.

Thanks for reading and allowing me to share some of my deeper self.  I so much appreciate all of you and your strength and bravery for living out loud.

So….it’s July 2, 2010.  This means that TOMORROW our long awaited for Eric and the Adams goes GAGA show is HERE!!  I flipping can’t wait.  The boys and I have truly worked our tail ends off for this show.  What I have loved the most about it has been the way we’ve pulled together with so many people to make this incredible night happen.  Our Mom, the one and only, Camilla has been working diligently on our costumes and our great friend Steve has built us an incredibly fun little light show.  I can’t even begin to tell you the hours that have been put into this thing but what I can tell you is that we can’t wait to do this!  More than anything, we want this to be one of the best shows we’ve ever put on because of everything that our friends, family and supporters have done for us.

Check soon for an update after the show…I’m SURE we’ll have some pics and vids.  Hang loose and have a great and safe holiday this weekend!

Much, much love to you! ~ Angel

This is my Neice, Amarie...and this face of hers is a perfection reflection of how I feel right now! :)

Hey Friends!!  I haven’t been able to control my excitement.  I had to jump on here and let it all out!  Eric just returned home from a few shows down in Florida…a BIG thank you to everyone who came out to support him.  He always has such great stories from you guys!  I know he loves being out there with you guys but I am SO GLAD TO HAVE HIM BACK HERE WITH THE BAND!
Last night Eric played an acoustic show at one of our favorite haunts.  It was nice for Jimmy and I to be able to sit out in the crowd and enjoy some music and watch Eric in all his acoustic glory.  I’m still amazed at the way he handles that guitar.
NOW…why did I post that ridiculously cheese of a picture?  BECAUSE THE LOOK ON HER FACE IS THE PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF HOW I FEEL ABOUT OUR UPCOMING TOUR DATES!!
I can’t wait to get on the road and see some of you again!  Or meet some of you for the first time!  We head out pretty soon to hit Albuquerque and Denver (Littleton).  Eric has been working super hard to get us out there…and it’s paying off.  :)

Summer is fast approaching and our schedule is filling up!  If you want us to come out to your town or city, send us your suggestions and venues and we’ll try our hardest to get there.  Thanks again SO MUCH for your support.  Knowing you’re out there makes everything worth it!

Hope to see you soon,

Angel

Whirlwind of Goodness for Eric and the Adams

December 9th, 2009 Angel 1 comment

Hello again, Friends!!  Angel here reporting from a brisk 25 degrees in Tulsa, OK.  I have so much to share with you that I don’t even know where to begin.

Let us start with the overwhelming showing of support at our CD Release Party held at Electric Circus in Tulsa.  We sang and played our hearts out to a sold out crowd and mingled with old friends and new ones until the wee hours of the morning.  We owe everything to the folks at Dwelling Spaces, KJRH, KTUL, KMOD, Z104.5-Tulsa, Route 66 Marathon (Kimi), Tom Green & Angie DeVore-Green, the folks @ Electric Circus, and last but not least our friends and family…without YOU, we would never have had such a successful night.

Part of the Crowd at the CD Release Party!
(Part of our Crowd @ Electric Circus!)

Finishing the night!
(Eric and the Adams wrapping up the night with a big finish!)

OK!  Now with the rest…we continue to push this crazy train we like to call Eric and the Adams, FULL STEAM AHEAD.  Here’s the news from recent weeks:

  • Tulsa’s Z104.5 :  We were invited on air and had a chance to play a few songs…and now we have “Song of the Week” on the local radio program called Homegroan!
  • www.tulsaoriginalmusic.com : They have picked us up and are playing us on rotation every 3 hours for December 7th – December 13th!
  • COLLEGE RADIO:  We are starting to hit the airwaves at colleges all over the nation thanks to Tinderbox Music and CMJ.  We are playing at stations KSAU in East Texas, KDUP at the University of Portland, and at our very own Rogers State College.  We also just found out TODAY in an email from Brandon at Tinderbox that …well, here’s a quote from the email:

Great news man. The CMJ charts were just posted and your album got onto the Top ADDs chart at #18 this week.  The response so far has been great, and this is an awesome start!! Congrats man…

  • KJRH Weekend Show – We had the opportunity to play for our NBC affiliate, KJRH, and recieved a message from on air anchor, George Flickinger that the show typically has ratings of 60,000-70,000 viewers.  BUT, he said the moment our segment came, on the ratings spiked up over 110,000 viewers!!  The highest the show has EVER seen!

“WHAT!?!?!?!”   That is what I yelled at Eric over the phone after he told me of all this news.

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN!?!?!  (How does a television show go from 70,000 viewers to over 110,000?!?!?!?!)  I’ll tell you how it happens…it’s all because of YOU - Friends, Family, and everyone who believes in us.  There is no way we could do this alone.  No Way.

We are beside ourselves and humbled by the response and support that everyone has shown us. Once again…

THANK YOU!

ERIC AND THE ADAMS – VIDEO PREMIERE OF EVERY MOVE!

November 18th, 2009 Angel No comments

Hey Everyone!  It’s Angel here and right off the bat I want to say THANK YOU!!  To everyone who has jumped on board with us so wholeheartedly!  There are SO many people who have gone the extra mile to help make our debut CD and our very first Eric and the Adams video a success.  I am overwhelmed by the response from people all across the states!  :)

This past Saturday we had our CD Listening and Video Premiere Party at a great little hang out in Tulsa called Lola’s at the Bowery.  I wanted to share a video of this great party that our good friends at JabberboxTV.com put together for us.  They are a website dedicated to showcasing talent that is from Oklahoma or has ties to Oklahoma…I was amazed at how many bands come out of our fair city.

Check out this video and thanks again SO much for your support.  We are hoping our video of  “Every Move” goes viral and blows up…so, pass it on to as many people as you know!  :)

THANKS!!

Surprise!! Hey everybody it’s Angel reporting from Atlanta. I have a couple of really exciting things to share with you. First and foremost…the Eric and the Adams Debut CD!! We want to share a little sneak peak for all of you who are checking out the website: The CD artwork. :)

We had a lot of fun putting this together and I love the idea of this “envelope”…kind of a precursor to us having countless opportunities to travel all around the world.  That’s how I like to think of it anyway. ;)
Keep checking back as often as you can…we are so excited about sharing everything that is coming up as the release date comes closer and closer!!

SO, like I said earlier, We are currently in Atlanta and just arrived back at the hotel from an amazing time at Pride.  I can’t begin to tell you how incredible our time was here. We are so grateful to everyone who staffed this event and worked SO hard to make this amazing weekend happen.
Here we are on the COVER of the Pride Guide. Buck wrote a wonderful story about us as well…so cool!

Here is a pic of our dear frontman Eric (and me) from the show today. :) We love it when folks send us pics like this.

Of course, I’m saving one of my favorite photos for last…It’s me and Blake Lewis. He was SO incredibly sweet. I like it when we run into fellow artists and they are so approachable.

That’s all I have for now…Eric is working diligently on our newsletter as we “speak”.  LOTS of things going on to make the launch of our debut CD a success.  We can’t wait to unleash “ERIC AND THE ADAMS”. :)
Thanks for stopping by and I can’t wait to catch up with you again.

ERIC AND THE ADAMS RECORDING DEBUT CD IN NASHVILLE STUDIO THIS WEEK

October 13th, 2009 Angel 3 comments

Alright, Ladies and Gentlemen…this is Angel and it’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to say hello to everyone out there.  I can’t WAIT to meet all of you who have been following Eric during his solo career.  He always has such great stories of you from the road.

We’re still working hard in the studio and our conversations continuously turn to those of you who have listened all these years and those of you who have just discovered Eric and the Adams…We are making this cd for you!  This by far has been one of our most gracious bonding times together.  It’s amazing to me how well we all get along.  After so many “close-quarter” hours together it would seem that we could blow up at any minute.  We’ve been in the studio consistently working 12 hours a day(going on 4 days now) and we are still laughing and having an incredibly great time.  I LOVE IT HERE!

Nashville has been good to us…the folks here have been incredible.  We’ve had a few opportunities to get out and about town and even ran into Vince Gill at breakfast.

For those of you who know, Singer-Songwriter/Christian Artist, Amy Grant has been the most influential in my life in the area of music.  She was the first woman I had ever seen play the guitar and command a stage.  SO…to run into her husband was a highlight of this trip.  He was gracious and encouraging and very sweet to me when we spoke.  Next time…it will be Amy.  :)

Before we left Tulsa, we had an opportunity to play an event for the Tulsa Area United Way and Big Brothers & Big Sisters.  We love having these chances to give back to the community.  This time around it was one of the most incredible moments in my life.  The venue was one that has been a life’s dream of mine to play.  The historic Cain’s Ballroom has so much life and history in it.  I am still beside myself.

Here we are backstage after our amazing set.  RIDICULOUS!  I’m sure you can tell by the look on my face how excited I am…

Thank you all so much for all of the support you have given us.  This CD is amazing and I can’t wait for you to hear it!!
